Putting on and taking off an ocular prothesis

Putting on and taking off an ocular prosthesis

At first it may seem a bit difficult to remove and then put your prosthesis back on, but don't worry, you will get used to it very quickly.

Remember the essential hygiene rules : always have clean hands before each manipulation and ensure that the prosthesis is cleaned before putting it back.

Place your ocular prosthesis:

First, gently push the prosthesis under the upper eyelid.

Then, hold the prosthesis firmly, and pull the lower eyelid down, until the prosthesis slides under the lower eyelid.

It suffices to press lightly so that the air, which may have penetrated behind the prosthesis, is quickly expelled.

Remove your ocular prosthesis:

Relax, and direct your gaze upwards, which will make it easier for you to draw the eyelid down.

Carefully run your finger over the edge of your eye. By slightly pushing the prosthesis forward.

It slips out of orbit on its own. You can also use a small hook or a suction cup (provided for this purpose).

Clean your ocular prosthesis in a small container of lukewarm water (never run it directly under running water). After cleaning it, dry it gently with a disposable tissue.
